HR 3548 As It Is Written and Passed
Here is the link to the actual bill. You can go down and read each of the sections of the bill. It lists the Second Tier and Third Tier benefits and everything else separately. I am going to start working through it but if someone else can also read through for the answers as to who it will help, please do so.

I just read through the bill and at first pass it seems that anyone who has claimed at least 1 (one) week of emergency benefits will be covered by this bill. Again, I am just reading the entire bill for the first time so it anyone else see something different please comment so we can all take another look at it.
ReplyDeleteAlley, did it pass the House yet or not? I've been at the grocery store and haven't been home for a while (thank God for food stamps).
ReplyDeleteTeri, yes it did pass the house.
ReplyDeleteTeri,
ReplyDeleteYES, it did just pass the House. They are reporting that they expect the President to sign it tomorrow. Personally, i would like to see him run down and sign it today!! But, it is all passed and ready to sign so it should be in effect as of this week.
Just a note on regarding the followers of this blog.
ReplyDeletewe started this blog, a few weeks ago to have a place where we could share information and commiserate with one another with regards to issues of unemployment and the emergency extension. There are 30 or 31 people who have contributed to this blog since we started it and everyone has been wonderful, respectful of others, sharing great information as well as their stories. We have built a community together. I hope that with the passage of this bill people will start to be able to mend the cracks in their lives. I also hope everyone plans to stay on and continue the quest for more jobs, stronger economic growth, more help for the unemployed and to ensure things get better in general and that this never happens again.
Thanks for being a part and for all your help!!
I agree Alley, he should be waiting outside the HOR's with pens full of ink.... After all, we wouldn't want the pens to run out!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have to personally say to all of you on this blog that I'm not really blog savvy but that you all show strength of character on this particular site. Before I learned how to search (and I still don't know how) I was on washingtonwatch.com under the HR3548 site and they are really wrong in so many ways. You have to scroll through pages of bs to actually get some real info (such are yourselves posted). I've been without ANY funds since the 3rd week in July of this year and this extension meant the world to me. I live with my ex-husband (who has a good job) and I've been turned into a serving wench who cooks, cleans and does laundry to at least feel like I was contributing something. You guys are all intelligent and not condescending in the slightest to any and all who post here. Thank you for that and thank God its finally passed. I won't get the whole 14+6 but at least I'll have some money to contribute and won't feel like I can't speak up for myself when it comes to contributing money towards the household. Thanks one and all.
ReplyDeleteTeri, I just want to send you a bog ol' virtual hug

Hang in there!
On California EDD site. This is what it says.
ReplyDeleteOn Friday, November 6, 2009, President Obama signed new federal legislation making further unemployment extension benefits available. The first eligible week for the new benefits is the week starting Sunday, November 8, 2009. Any time spent unemployed and without benefits before then is not covered by the new federal legislation.
NOW HERE IS THE KICKER.
Although the new extensions do provide the potential for up to 20 additional weeks of benefits for higher unemployment states, including California, it’s likely six weeks of those benefits won’t be available due to pending federal filing deadlines at the end of the year.
WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT. ANE WHY SHOULD THIS HAVE ANYTHING TO WITH US GETTING WHAT IS DUE TO US BY lAW.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN?
The new extensions set new records for benefit weeks available in a federal extension program and will require complex programming to implement.( More Stalling) EDD is working around the clock to ensure payments can be made as quickly as possible. It’s currently estimated that will take several weeks. Does anybody else see this kind of nonsense on any of your state’s Website.?
In the meantime, there is no need to contact EDD. We will be contacting potentially eligible claimants and notifying them of developments. Once programming is in place, we will follow up with further instructions and automatically file the extensions for as many of our clients as possible. We may also need to contact some clients at that time and request further information. Please watch this Web site for further updates.
kmcolli8,
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting your issue. This is something that is posted a number of times on the blog. CA is not the only state that is saying the same thing. Its terrible! I made some calls today to a few different sources, media and political to get to the bottom of this. NY, which is my home state is saying the same thing. I am also reading the bill to see what I can see to try and understand what happened.
I am going to start a new post for people to post links with various information they are finding, as far as articles and DOL websites are concerned. Please keep me posted as to what you see and hear and at least rest in the knowledge that benefits will restart soon and there is time for them to straighten this out. Also, there are some states who are NOT saying the same thing, of of the two interpretations is wrong. We will find out what one it is.
The Senate is out on Recess for an extended weekend. I am not sure what day they will be back in Washington, but I think we all need to continue to contact them and ask that they get to the bottom of this ASAP.
Teri,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words regarding the blog. The reason behind starting one of our own was the very same reasons you listed. We wanted to have a place where people could feel comfortable posting, commenting and commiserating with each other. You know, actually helping each other as a support system, without the distractions of mean spirited people. Where we all had the same goal, to get the best information and get it out to people and when there was varying information we posted what we found and continued to find until it was sufficiently supported.
We will continue to be here as there are still issues, even with this bill it seems there are still issues as to what the exact details are and will be for each state. There is also the bigger picture, we all need to find jobs, good jobs to support ourselves and our families. I for one will continue to be here to help and I know there are many others too.
hugs for you and hope you get a good nights sleep tonight!
