Election Day
Today is election day and there are a few states with candidates who are in a dead heat. NJ and VA are two such states. Please keep us posted as to what is happening in your state with regards to the election today.
Republicans will win NY and Virginia. NJ to close. Rasmussen Poll has Christie by 3% Rasmussen himself said if he were to bet, he would take Christie, but wouldn't bet a lot. The Rasmussen Poll hit the Presidential election right on the nose last year. I'm out of here ....I can feel hate mail. I wonder if I'm covered under the hate crime bills.
Good morning. NY also has a close race in the 23rd district. It's up in the northern part of the state and its been all over the news because it showcases the republican in-fighting between the moderate reps and the extreme conservative perversion of the party.
As it goes the moderate dropped out under pressure from the national extremists - Palin, Limbaugh, Pataki, etc. So it's looking like the conservative is going to take the election.
My question is, I'm all for financial responsibility (goodness knows I have to be these days!)but where does financial responsibility cross moral responsibility? There are alot of people that depend on govt aid. Not really us, but the physically and mentally disabled, the elderly, victims of disasters, etc. People that would otherwise, to put it bluntly, be left for dead. I have a sinking feeling that these new conservative extremists would be ok with that. Scary.
If a new Gov does get in, they don't take office until January, correct? So maybe if this bill passes, the acting Gov would accept the terms of it and have the funds to have the UB sent out?
I agree with you lovely33 on the ultra conservative, but I think on a whole that the moderate republican have no problem with helping those that can't help themselves. I believe moral obligations always trumps financial, but being financially responsible can also mean that you are being morally responsible.
Voting for Corzine based on Christie's comment about not accepting TARP money is a moot point. The extensions will NEVER be taken out of TARP. It's such a meaningless comment by him.
TARP funds are not the issue, its the stimulus package all inclusive. He didn't say he wouldn't take TARP money he said that as far as Unemployment issues go he would not accept further stimulus assistance from the government. JerzeeGirl is more on top of it than I am, but I am sure that if she reads this she will make a more detailed comment.
Christie is running because he knows how unhappy people are in NJ. It gives him a very good shot at kicking a Demo and trying to strong arm with his Republican views. Although Corzine is no saint, at least he is willing to help the unemployed.
For him to make a comment like that says volumes about how he intends to run the state. He has no intention of helping it stabilize he just wants to cut costs everywhere which will only result in more troubled times for so many trying to just get by.
TARP is a terrible program. Outside of the first extension it's done nothing for the citizens of this country. Very few jobs have been created. I think the number is about 5,000 for tens of billions. The banks got help and are now handing out tens of billions in bonuses. The Cash for Clunkers program cost taxpayers $24,000 per car sold.
There is absolutely no reason to have it around. It puts us more in debt not to mention the TARP figure are closer to $3.7 trillion, not $700 billion.
I'm all for unemployment extensions whether I was unemployed or not. I'm not for reckless spending and lining the pockets of financial companies.
Jen Z....We can't keep spending money just to spend it. Christie can talk about not accepting money from TARP for unemployment from now until the end of time because it WILL NEVER HAPPEN. It it was going to happen the Democrats would have accepted the amendment.
This country is in deep trouble and it doesn't begin and end with jobs. We need to bring in reckless spending. We need to cut some things in order to survive.
While we are all running around spending money that we don't have and making the dollar lose value, countries such as Iran, China and Russia and working on removing the dollar from the world reserve currency.
We need to start thinking of the very near future and what we are doing and how it will effect us in less than 10 years.
Matt, there is nothing in this blog that says anything positive about TARP. We are all against the amendment being attached to the bill because the House has made it clear they will not pass the bill with TARP attached.
I agree that the fund has not helped most of the people that is was supposed to help. The real people that are hurt here are not people who can go out and buy new cars or get new financing for a house, everyone knows that no one lends money to people who do not have a job.
TARP is not THE stimulus package, its part of th package. Unemployed people in NJ are worried that they will be left in the cold if Christie is elected because he has basically told them they would be.
So, I am not sure how the TARP thing came up in this issue beyond the amendment that we don't want attached to this bill.
My decision to not vote for Christie goes WELL beyond stimulus funds, but since THIS forum is about unemployment, that is the issue I mentioned. Can't say I am in love with Corzine by any means, but in picking the lesser of two evils, the evil meter went off the charts of Christie and his "policies" (which he is already waffling on...has already taken back promises about property tax rebates).
Besides, after what I have seen nationally, it is going to be a cold day in he** before I consider voting republican ever again.
As an interesting side note, did you know Monty Python may be suing him? For real....gotta love an attorney that doesn't understand basic copyright law. Check out this clip:
BTW...beating up Dem's is what the Dem's did with Repub on election day last year because of Bush and the problems then. The highth of Obama polling was just after the election at something like 61-62% approval, now alot have him at 49-50% and one at 46% approval. Anyone would have to say that is a big drop in less than a year, or close to a year. Obvious people are not happy now and with all the hype that President Obama got after the election did not do him well in the long run because people were expecting a lot, and NOW, as the American people are an impatient expect results immediately. I think I want "T".
Are we talking about ARRA of 2009 also known as the stimulus bill, also known as HR 1. Which has many aspects to it, unemployment being one which expires for everyone to apply for at the end of the year, and you all know that. There are some things I like in ARRA of 2009, and some I don't. A bill that large, I read it, is not going to be liked 100% by anyone.
NJ is frighteningly close, and I have my fingers and toes crossed that Christie does not win.
ReplyDeleteWhen did the VA race become close? Last I heard the Republican had a 13 point lead and the Democrat was no expected to win. Did something happen??
I too hope that Christie does not win. He's no good!
ReplyDeleteMaybe this bill will pass before he takes office, or has any control?
Ugh! I didnt mean they were all close, sorry for that. i meant that there is a lot of focus on those states because of the probable change in party.

ReplyDeleteDoes that make sense?

ReplyDeleteThat's true Jen Z.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to turn on cspan, or is that a waste of time?
ReplyDeleteCarl,
ReplyDeleteIt's a waste of time. We probably won't here anything about us until after lunch. They do a weekly Policy Lunch every week..must be nice.
Thank You, Jen Z. I will wait until after 2PM then. I bet their bellies are full!
ReplyDeleteHoffman will be elected in NY. I'm getting feedback on my comment on elections. These are my opinion of course and not necessarily by hopes.

ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the item on retroactive pay and eligibility...geez I don't know how many people I angered over that!
I'm voting for Christie. I have no clue why anyone would vote for Corzine outside of tax collectors.

Matt, I agree TARP is a waste of money that we will ultimately have to end up paying for.
ReplyDeleteBut Christie's refusal to help the unemployed in his own state does bother me. People all over need help!
