Frist Payment Received

Good Morning everyone!

To I collected from my account my first payment of the emergency extension! Yesterday I saw that the 14 week balance was transferred to my unemployment account.

I know there are states that are reporting that they still have not received the instructions from the USDOL and therefore they are not yet updating their computers, Tennessee is one of those states, at least as of Thursday last week. But there are a lot of states that have already started to make payments.

Please let us know what you know from your state office.

  1. Kentucky is still say they have no idea when they will start to take the new claims on the extension. This is as of Monday afternoon.

  2. Great news Alley!

I hope other states process quickly as well. Are you using direct deposit?

  3. JenZ, NY has a direct payment Visa card, it is quicker and easier than direct deposit. For me Direct deposit took another 3 days so i just use the Visa card and either used it as a credit card or take the money out of the bank and deposit it myself in the bank, it is much quicker.

  4. Alley,

That sounds pretty efficient. You would think every state would try to adapt this system and cut down on postage costs, and mailing delays.

Did you receive the same amount as you previously did?

  5. No new info on when claim forms will be sent out here in California. EDD says it's due to complex programming. Earlier this year it took almost six weeks to receive a check after the extension was passed.

  6. Congrats Alley! It's been a long, stressful wait.
I'm hoping California, and all the other states, get their act in gear so we can all be celebrating those first checks!

  7. Califormis EDD has updated their website...
EDD has identified an estimated 285,000 people in California who could be eligible for these new benefits. Approximately 100,000 of those people have already exhausted all available benefits and will be mailed notices this week advising them of their potential eligibility. The rest of these claimants will be receiving messages on their last unemployment benefit check they get from their current federal extension.

The first eligible week for the new benefits is the week starting Sunday, November 8, 2009. Because the new extension is not retroactive, it does not apply to any weeks of unemployment prior to the enactment date of November 8.

The new extensions passed by Congress are complex and are a challenge for states to administer. The program adds:

One week of benefits to the second federal extension already available in California,
Thirteen weeks in a third extension or third tier extension for states with an unemployment rate of at least 6 percent, and
Six weeks of benefits in a fourth extension or fourth tier extension for states with an unemployment rate of 8.5 percent or higher.
EDD is aggressively working to finish the necessary programming so the new extension claims can be filed and paid. However, due to the complexity, it’s estimated the programming will take several weeks to complete.

  8. Alley, Florida says that they won't even have the on-line application ready until beginning of December. Anyone still on an extension will automatically be put on this extension but people like me who's benefits ended in July will have to submit a new application. They are also sending out paper aps in the mail the first week of December. So by the time they actually get around to paying it will be mid-December.

  9. Teri, this is terrible and you are not alone! There are several states that are having these issues. Yesterday during the interview with the New York Times we talked a bit about the issues with this extension. If you havent read the article yet it is posted in the blog and everyone should read it as well as all the comments that have been posted since it was released. The stories are terrible and it is stressful just thinking about how long the Senate took to pass a bill that while it did start benefits flowing again, (OR THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FLOWING) it wont be long before we will all be playing another more stressful waiting game and that is to see just what will happen with the additional 6 weeks as well as the job market and will there be another extension.

Please keep us posted as to how things are going for you. I started a thread a while back about telling your stories, my email address is listed there. I would love to chat with you about some of the stories that I have heard about Florida, families living in the woods and coming out to meet the buses and whatnot, if you send me an email I will give you my phone number so that you can give me a call or you can send me your number and I will call you.

As far as everything else goes and what will happen next we NEED to stay on top of this situation and continue to call and email and send letters to Congress. We cant let the pressure off, not for one minute!

  10. More great news from Kentucky, it will be about 2 weeks before we can even file to reopen our claim then another 2 weeks waiting period just like filing a new claim. I am just amazed how screwed up Kentucky is.

  11. hello to all,
Just thought I'd add what the state of Illinois is doing. At this time they have added the 13 weeks to my benefit balance and I am due to certify on monday. Based on the response I got from IDES , I don't have to file my work search like before (but still will do one) and hopefully I will recieve some much needed funds by wednesday. Other than that I am still holding on and hope everyone else is too. Take care all

  12. I received payment from Washington State. I contacted them through their email Wednesday and received email response next day saying they activated account so I filed for the first week (ending 11/14/09) received $$$ by direct deposit early this AM. So I only ended up waiting 3 extra days than usual for first check. Usually in account on Tuesday if I file Sunday. All is well in Washington State's EUC now. Arizona's media said Arizona recipients will get notice of status for EUC claims this week by mail.
Hope all is well with the those needing funds soon or yesterday. I would be glad to intervene in your behalf if I think I can help. I'm free the rest of November. December a little busier.
Hope All a nice Thanksgiving, and those that don't receive one, my heart goes out to you ALL.

    Carl

  13. Well, I haven't received my letter from California EDD this week! As my last claim ran out on Oct 30th, and the notice on there web site said I should have. Guess I'll be on the phone Monday morning.
ANYONE IN CALIFORNIA RECEIVE THE LETTER OF ELIGIBILITY?

  14. California Unemployed,

I definitely would call. I have done that. This time and once when I had waited 9 weeks. Both calls had everything in action the next day. As they checked my account while on the phone and started the processing action at that time. They didn't tell me that. But one time she said she was working on ones that were 3 weeks behind mine, and the next day I was good.
Don't forget to tell us when you do get the first $$s.
    Carl
