NJ Specific question - for those who got the NJ Letter dated 11/9

I got the initial letter on Monday, November 9, regarding the EUC extension, saying the day to certify is 11/25, etc.

In this letter it said "in the coming days you will receive a monetary determination letter that will explain your potential additional EUC benefits. You will also receive a separate certification notice with instructions on how to continue claiming EUC benefits"

I have yet to receive these additional letters - just wanted to check in to see if others have.

  1. Jerzee what's up Andy. I too recieved the NJ letter dated 11/9 a couple of weeks ago. It said another letter was to follow(which I have yet to receive) with monetary information and account balance etc..It said to claim for this comming Wednesday 11/25, but I'm still waiting as well. Hopefully the direct deposit is still in effect and maybee get an electronic money transfer overnight in time for 11/27 Friday or 11/28 Saturday.

  2. Hey Andy ...how are you!! You made me feel better in that if no one is getting that 2nd series of letters yet, everything is fine to claim on Wednesday. I was wondering if I somehow didn't qualify.

As long as I have my $$ by the 1st I will be happy (rent day).

See any free movies lately? lol

  3. Hey Jerzee and Andy,

Another State (Wa.), I was filing on Friday and Today (Sunday the 22nd), but still haven't received my funds statement. In the past, the statements came about the second payment due time. We are really talking apples and oranges, when it has to do with States getting forms and checks out. I can't imagine anyone not getting their checks latter than by the Nov 30th....except for those States that have been notoriously inefficient in the past. jmo and I think they should be almost on track by then.
When you do get the statement, you should or with in a day or two have check(s). Good Luck!!
You are applying every week or two in your cases, right. Should be around turkey day. But then again, are you an apple or an orange. :))

  6. Must be nice to live in a state that is at least a little on top of this. Kentucky has no idea what they are doing. I called the director of UI in KY on friday and they said they have no idea when it will happen or how it will work. I asked them about an artical in the local paper that said there would be a 2 week waiting period after they do the programming and they told me they never said that, so I told them the name of the person from there office you told this to the paper and they said he does not work in this office. So I got his number and called him and says he works in a different office of unemployment and is the media relations person. I asked him why he said we would have a 2 week waiting period for an employer to dispute a claim that has been open for 79 weeks and he said he did not know but would find out and call me back, but as expected never did. So I will start all ove on Monday.

  7. Some advice as to what to do if your states are not following through on the process of getting out your payments.

Call you district Congressional representative's office and ask them what the hold up is and express your frustrations as well. I was surprised to find out that you will actually get some results. Call the local offices as opposed to the Washington DC office.

There are people in the offices that actually work as caseworker type people. If you are not getting any assistance let us know and we can help you make calls.

  8. Hi Jerzee...Gail thanks for the very helpful post confirming what I suspected regards to the second letter. I must admit I was getting a little nervous for a second there(although unequivocally the law is on our side) until Jerzee calmed my fears confirming she did not get the second letter yet. Today Monday 11/23 still no letter but Gail with your info should get the letter Tues or Wed the latest. Either way I'm claiming online. So glad the work search form to fill out isn't required for this one(as I keep my own log anyway). Jerzee I'll probably go see 2012 tomorrow.

  9. Carl..Also thanks for the post...I'm an apple guy myself, oranges too messy, I'd rather drink OJ. LOL

Jersey is usually pretty good about getting these letters out...The first one was dated 11/9 a few days after Obama signed, but this second one I'm sure is making a lot of people here in the Garden State feel uneasy especially during the holidays. Can you imagine for those who don't blog or check the internet to find out what's going on?

Anyway this has been a hell of a ride and hopefully better things will be to come in 2010.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

  10. Alley,

Thank you for your offer to help I will take any help I can get with Kentucky. I feel like I am beating my head against the wall. I all seem to get from them is we are working on it but no idea when it will be complete and if we will have to file a new claim and then wait 2 weeks longer to file for our first check. The number to UI in Kentucky is 502-564-2900 this is to the directors office. Thank you and everyone else for any help you can give.

  12. I just received my determination letter with amount in my account, in NJ. Although, the letter states to call in on Nov 26th Thanksgiving. This is different from the website. Jerzee Girl, should I just disregard letter and claim on line on the 25th instead???
Did you get your letter today?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hi Barb. Huh, the 26th, that is odd. My mail has not arrived yet today, wonder if I will get something.

I would try calling in (or doing the online thing) on the 25th (tomorrow) and see if it goes through. I sometimes, in the past, had claim dates on Wed or Thurs and did it Tue instead and it all went through OK. Give it a shot, after all, we WERE initially told to claim on the 25th. Worst that happens is it does not go through and you call back next day.

On your determination letter - does it show 16 weeks worth of $$ or 20??

    ReplyDelete
  14. OK, thanks for the advice. I will try because how do they know that I received my letter and all I had to go off was the web site, right?

Oh, and the letter came like a check/light blue and it states at the bottom:

New EUC TIER III Maximum Benefit Amount (MBA) (includes 14th week of Tier II) and then my weekly amount which is the same. I guess the other 6 weeks making it 20 will come as a separate extension, hopefully without interruption. Did you hear anything about the ARRA reauthorization that needs to be extended (the deadline) in order for this new bill and benefits to continue? I am wondering if we receive two checks for December and they haven't changed the expiration date that we will be sitting around waiting for them to fix it. What are your thoughts? Or do I have this right?

Thanks, and let me know if you get your letter.

    Good luck and God bless.....

  15. At this point my understanding is they are ok to send out the full 14 weeks but further action is needed to release the additional 6 weeks.

  16. Hi everybody, I recd my blue letter today it seems to be the money determination and the certification all in one...It shows 14weeks of beneits not 20wks..dont know why...it also states for me to certify on 11/26...however I will try to go online and claim tomr morn and see what happens...hope everyone else gets their mail too. I will share on this site anytime I have info that I think would be useful. Be blessed

  17. Hi Jerzee, didn't see 2012, saw Christmas Scrooge Movie instead, pretty good old school Charles Dickens.

My 2nd letter came today(Tuesday). Dido everthing above a la 14 weeks Tier 3, although if you do the math times WBR it really is more like 13 weeks which I didn't get.

As I understand it the other 6 weeks will come under the next tier when the 14 runs out. The other legislation is not going to effect the other 6 weeks which is already the law of the land. The new pending legislation will effect people who are still on base weeks or still on past extensions that will run out in Janaury 2010.

The only thing I could see effecting the 6 weeks is the 3 month average. I hope I'm wrong on this but I remember reading an article last month or so about some state in the midwest whose 3-month average went below the threshold and folks weren't able to collect their extra weeks under the previous 3-month trigger average, which sucks. I don't have a handle as to when that 3-month trigger average locks in and you are guaranteed the extra weeks. Anyone want to chime in on this? Alley you out there?

Right now NJ is really high right around the national average, so it would take a lot to get under 8.5 percent but still for our friends in other states and just self-peace of mind it would be nice to know and confirm how the 3-month average thing works with regards to triggers taking effect and locking in those weeks. (Why do I feel like I'm hosting the Game show Millionare saying that? lol) Just saying.

Jerzee you have check out the new Clearview in Hoboken, nice place, spanking brand new if you are ever out tht way.

Anyway post how you made out with your second letter when you get the chance and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

  18. Jerzee Girl,

At 7:30 am I was up and went on line to file my claim, it allowed me to complete and gave me confirmation. However, it states my claim is not payable at this time. In the meantime, please do not attempt to file again for the same weeks either via internet or by telephone. I also called 201-601-4100 and 201-601-4110 both are busy and disconnect, telling me that there is a high volume of calls. I had an idea that it would not go smoothly....this is ridiculous. I have no idea, what to do? What do you think I should do?

    Thanks!

  19. I hate to disagree on the extra 6 weeks but I do not think the way it is setup right now that anyone will see the extra 6 weeks. With everything from the ARA set to end at the end of Dec we will all still be collecting on the 14 week Tier and my understanding is that you can not move to the next tier after the ARA runs out. I know it seems really silly that they did this but then again we are talking about our government.

Me I would be happy to collect on the 14 weeks Kentucky is so screwed up I do not expect to see any money until around xmass.

  20. Friends-
Although we won additional weeks of federal extensions earlier this month, existing programs for jobless workers that passed as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in February 2009 (ARRA) will start phasing out at the end of the year. With unemployment remaining high and extending over longer periods, there is a compelling case to reauthorize the ARRA - but we must advocate for it to make it happen, and ensure that ARRA is renewed before the end of the year.

Reauthorizing the ARRA is important because individuals that exhaust regular state benefits or EUC Tier I and Tier II benefits in January will generally not be eligible for further federal extensions. And as many of you have asked, those in high unemployment states will not receive the additional 6 weeks of benefits. Please see our fact sheet on how this phase-out affects different states, and why emergency action is needed. For more information, also check out our recent press release on the expiration of Recovery Act benefits.

Please tell your member of Congress that the UI provisions of the ARRA must be reauthorized without delay. It is unfair for workers to be excluded from benefits that have been granted to others now that the unemployment rate has reached double digits.

Congress has multiple issues to consider and we cannot allow unemployment insurance to get lost in the shuffle. Previous efforts to pass legislation only occurred because unemployed workers throughout the country raised their voices and made themselves heard. We are counting on you once again.

TAKE ACTION: Click here to contact your member of Congress to take immediate action on the issue of the ARRA reauthorization. Forward the action center link http://www.unemployedworkers.org/sites/unemployedworkers/index.php/benefits to everyone you know. Please also call your member of Congress to make sure they hear the message loud and clear by dialing the congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

Thanks again for everything you have already done.

  21. Anyone else claim today and receive a message that it is not payable at this time?????

    Please, any suggestions would help!

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Good morning Barbara. I claimed online, everything seemed to go through smoothly. Message said " Your claim for unemployment insurance benefits has been accepted. A check will be mailed to you on our next business day." Nothing about not being payable at this time (though "benefits exhausted" was still in the memo line from the last time).

Were yo at the point that you had exhausted all other benefits? Can't figure out why you got that message. If I were you I would keep trying to call.

Now, I have to wonder what the "next business day" is. I think a lot of State offices are closed on Friday - meaning, they might not process this until Monday? So I won't get the check until Tuesday? Geesh that is cutting it CLOSE for my rent payment, argh. If anyone does have to call in and speak with someone, can you ask what the next business day is?

(Andy - The Blind Side was awesome. I'll have to look for the scrooge movie - was that Jim Carey?)

  23. State of NJ Website

"New Jersey State Offices will be closed on Friday November 27, 2009 due to furlough."

Argh, can they draw out making this first check any longer? They really should have let us all claim yesterday - process today, mail delivery Friday.

Oh well, Ramen Noodles for T-Day is just yumy.

  24. lburnell, You are absolutely correct! Unless Congress acts quickly and signs the extension of the ARRA the additional 6 weeks will just disappear! NELP sent out an email requesting everyone write and ask Congress take immediate action to extend ARRA. See below.

Although we won additional weeks of federal extensions earlier this month, existing programs for jobless workers that passed as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in February 2009 (ARRA) will start phasing out at the end of the year. 25. Happy Thanksgiving All,
I truly hope that you will all have a healthy and happy day. However I have news to share..They THEY SHOWED ME THE MONEY TOO, actually today on THANKSGIVING, can you believe. Well in my previous comment I mentioned I rec'd my blue envelope telling me to claim benefits on 11/26 (today) but i said I would try on 11/25 since that was the original date they gave to us, I did that online yesterday, and it went thru.I checked my email this morning on my cell phone and had a alert from my bank that a direct deposit had posted to my account (Thanksgiving). I checked my bank acct by phone and the money was there,I couldnt believe it. So it posted in one day,and on a HOLIDAY..WOW ...I am truly thankful for so much today...Including all the info i have gotten from reading the posts over the months from you guys.

Every one enjoy the day, and remember that we still have some hard work ahead of us.

  26. Hi Gaily - good news :)

Mine did not show up yesterday, but WAS deposited today. I claimed on Wednesday (ignored the more recent letter with the Thursday claim date).

Rent will be paid, huge sigh of relief. With next check will work on getting caught up on other things. Then need to start saving for a new computer - mine is on its last legs :(

Barbara - did you ever get your situation resolved?

Hope everyone had a nice Turkey Day.

I made English Muffing Pizzas and watched Miracle of 34th Street. Woo hoo.

  27. Has anyone got their 1st check yet? When is the next call in date?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi Jerzee Girl,

Yes, after several hours wait time, I finally got through to a live representative. She informed me that I was not alone and that many people have experienced the same difficulty due to some system glitche that computed an error message after receiving last EB check. She went in and corrected it while I was on the phone, asked me the questions on the blue sheet and assured me the check would be sent out tomorrow. I told her that I had closed my account and had sent the appropriate documents over a month ago as I anticipated the bill to be signed before hand. She confirmed receipt and told me all would go as normal for now...my weekly amount only allows me to collect for about 12 weeks, but it sure beats a blank!!!
Thanks for asking and I am glad to learn that you have received your deposit in time to pay the rent. Talk to you soon!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I meant to write closed my "bank account." sorry....

    ReplyDelete
  30. Did they tell you when you claim again?

the check form sent out, blue sheet does not say the usual please claim on a certain. it's blank.

So i dont know when to claim again.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Not sure when you claimed, was it the 25th??

If so, just count fourteen days from that claim date and claim again on that day. This will work out because it will also work out to receiving your next check on the fourteenth day after receiving the first one. However, I was given the next call in date for Dec. 10, 2009. I am supposed to receive my first check tomorrow in the mail because my bank account is closed.

    Good luck....

  34. Hi Friends,

Question: Did anyone who as already received their first check, receive the extra (small) check for $25 extra a week - $50 for the two weeks???

Just wanted to know if I should be expecting it in the mail today. It usually comes out on the following Monday, or at least it did in the past.

    Thanks for sharing!

  35. Oh, I did receive the extra $25 a week/$50 for the two weeks this Tuesday passed.

I hope everyone has received theirs, it really helps!!!
